You probably have already heard that the Government is offering cash for clunkers and will pay up to $4,500 towards the purchase of a new car when you trade in a gas guzzler. So, is it really a great idea?
This deal is extremely popular with people who are tired or spending a fortune at the pump. It is also a chance for those who are upside down in their old, gas guzzler to get a fresh start in a brand new, much more fuel efficient car. After all what's better than a government rebate of up to $4500 towards the purchase of a brand new car? One that is more fuel efficient, smells nice and turns more heads?
The Cash for Clunkers program is a great success, so much so that the program nearly ran out of money. But with a fresh injection of government cash the cash for clunkers program is still chugging along, making new car owners out of thousands, and getting rid of the headaches that an old car can cause. It also has hopes of jumpstarting the economy, and acts as a lifeline to the auto industry.
It is not without opponents, who think that the new plan is only helping foreign auto makers and that it will prevent people from buying more fuel efficient used cars, which could in turn cause a glut and overstock at the very same dealerships.
The program targets those that bought SUVs, trucks and larger vehicles prior to 2003 and have suffered long enough with high gas prices.
For the consumer there is really no downside to this program.
If you are interested in this program, contact your nearest car dealership and inquire about their cash for clunkers status. Remember, the deal only applies to new cars.
You can check car prices here and then inquire about the cash for clunkers program. Most large auto dealers are involved in this program, as long as they sell new cars.
