If you have chrome exhaust pipes you want to keep them clean and shiny. Unfortunately, this isn't always easy because you actually ride the bike and that means the chrome will get dirty. Chrome exhaust pipes often pick up dirt from rain, mud splatter, bugs and more. Luckily there's a great way to keep your pipes looking clean all the time, no matter what gets on them.
1. Clean the exhaust pipes first with a water and soap solution or store bought motorcycle exhaust pipe cleaner. There's many on the shelf but choose one that is in a bottle spray and has the strength to match your cleaning job. The cleaner should contain some solvents so it can cut through dirt and other materials. It should not harm chrome, however and must be chrome safe.
2. Spray on the motorcycle exhaust pipe cleaner using a decent amount of the stuff. Let it soak if that is what the manufacturer recommends.
3. Scrub the pipes with a tempered cloth, or bristle brush until the dirt and grime comes off. Then wipe the motorcycle exhaust pipes clean with another towel. Use a low abrasion cloth.
4. Next, you will want to polish the chrome motorcycle exhaust pipes with a chrome polish. One of the best ones is Star Clean. It will give a clear, mirror shine and does harm chrome. Just rub the chrome motorcycle polish into the pipe in a rotating motion with a soft cloth. Rub in it really good and cover every inch of the motorcycle exhaust pipes.
5. Buff the polish back out with a softer, micro fiber cloth. Do this by hand or hook up the buff machine for a fast, polished shine on your motorcycle exhaust pipes.
Removing Melted Plastic, Pant Leg Burns and More
Melted plastic bags, rain coats, pant legs and other materials easily turn to molten lava under the heat of motorcycle exhaust pipes. They really cause eye sores and won't come off with traditional cleaners. So how do you get it off?
